If
micro-cogeneratin systems are not siple to connect and safe,
they will never penetrate the domestic market successfully.
For this reason, COGEN Europe has initated in early 2001 the
creation of a European standard for the electrical interface
of domestic micro-cogeneration installations. The first step
was to develop a so-called "CEN Workshop Agreement"
(CWA)
CEN
is the European Committee for Standardization. It was founded
in 1961 by the national standards bodies in the European Economic
Community and EFTA countries It is the European counterpart
of the International Organization for Standardization.
CWAs
bridge the gap between the activities of consortia and the formal
process of European Norm (EN) standardization. A CWA is developed
by CEN Workshops, comprising only participants with direct interest,
and so it is not accorded the status of a EN standard.
This
project has agreed CWA 14642 on the electrical interface for
domestic cogeneration. It sets out requirements for the connection
to the low-voltage distribution network (230/400 V) of micro-cogeneration
systems for domestic use up to 16 A per phase. The intention
was to create interconnection rules and standards which ensure
safety of persons, information of electricians and network operators,
voltage quality, reliability of supply and protection of the
micro-cogeneration unit.
