| Description: |
The
goals of the COGEN Challenge project are
- to
support the transition of Europe's energy system towards
high-efficiency and low-carbon distributed electricity generation
by facilitating the development of a significant number
of small-scale and micro cogeneration projects;
- to
raise awareness through a high profile European-wide information
campaign for small-scale cogeneration;
-
to enhance local and regional capacity for the successful
development of small-scale cogeneration projects;
-
to transfer good practice and know-how between regional
and local energy agencies
- to
improve the market for energy services and new energy technologies
focussed on small-scale cogeneration;
-
to encourage pioneers and accelerate the market penetration
of existing and new small-scale cogeneration technologies;
- to
improve our understanding of micro-barriers to small-scale
cogeneration by analysing specific success factors and barriers;
- to
support the implementation of the European Cogeneration,
Renewables, Buildings, and Energy End-use Efficiency and
Energy Services Directives.
In
addressing these goals, COGEN Challenge will strategically
combine sound advice on technical and management issues the
one hand with a high-visibility promotional Pan-European campaign
on the other hand. The project consortium therefore includes
both regionally active technical experts as well as European
associations and cities' networks, whereby the more experienced
partners coach others with less know-how.
COGEN
Challenge expects to deliver:
- 1000
documented small-scale and micro-cogeneration projects across
Europe
- Five
new regional information and support facilities/facilitators
for small-scale cogeneration in five different European
countries.
- National
and European seminars and conferences on small-scale cogeneration.
- Small-scale
cogeneration working groups in five countries.
- A
"small-scale cogeneration toolkit-CD-ROM".
- A
European "1000 small-scale cogeneration units"
campaign with massive outreach to several thousand local
and regional actors across Europe.
- An
Internet platform to support networking and undertake dissemination.
- Analysis
of barriers and success factors for small-scale cogeneration.
- Higher
awareness and enhanced small-scale cogeneration project
development capacity in cit-ies and towns across Europe.
